Blizzard's new first person shooter.
Competitive mode ranking
How do you feel about the ranking after having played the placement matches? Were you satisfied with your performance and results? And how did you perform after that?
I was okay with my placement ranking of 46. Won 5, lost 5. It's not great but okay for the beginning. But from that point it went jst downhill for me very fast to rank 42 ( I am playing solo by the way). I am a bit .... frustrated now. :P

Started at 50, now at 47 because of ridiculously one-sided matches. Literally all 4 matches that I have played after the placement matches were extremely one-sided, 3 where we just got completely shredded, and 1 where on a control point map we were spawn camping the other team. Not impressed with Blizzard's matchingmaking algorithms :/
yeah, it feels I keep losing around 70% of the competitive games and that the other team is somewhat often stronger. It's hardly a tight match. and even more annoying when team members leave and you have to play with even less chances to win.
I feel you. I just finished my placement matches and won six of them. First competitive game after that and we got totally crushed without having a slightest chance and I instantaneously lost a rank (wtf...). In all 11 games, maybe 1 or 2 were really balanced, the rest was either we destroying them or vice versa. I hope Blizzard will be able to improve the matchmaking algorithm for future seasons.
People who leave in competitive mode matches makes me mad. Since there's no refilling of team in competitive match, one leaving guy could ruin the entire game.
What is the reason of not refilling I wonder?
It's competitive, you start as a team and fail as a team. Backfilling would not be fair for the person joining to a losing side (and counting as a lost).
I see. Makes sense!
Worst thing is that not only your team will be punished, but also the opponents by getting less exp/points/whatever, because they played against a team with less people.
I ranked at 43 which was kinda weird in the first place, as I had won 6 of my placement matches. However the ones lost were so so bad that I'm not entirely surprised by the ranking.
And yeah, now it's kinda horrible. I'm always going up and down. One or two good games, then a horrible one. I feel like without having a more set premade team it's pretty difficult to go up.
A friend of mine who's close to rank 60 and started at 50 something tells me it doesn't feel so bad at those numbers.
My hope is that by the next season people are a bit more aware, and that changes are made which make the whole thing work better. For now it does feel a bit pointless and frustrating.
I was placed ranked 57 after winning 6 or 7 out of 10; I have been hovering around 57 ever since. I'm not too worried about the matchmaking -- I don't think there's much you can do with a matchmaking algorithm when people can swap heroes and have their performance vary by which hero they're playing and whether or not they're being countered. So, even when there's stomps one way or another, I try not to blame it on the matchmaking. It's doing what it can.
Are the king-of-the-hill matches still giving much less rank than the other kinds of matches?
Hero switching is an important part of the game and of turning matches around, so I doubt they'd make it so that if your performance wasn't as good it would affect your ranking a lot.
Which brings me to another thing which is: how is ranking defined? From what I can tell it feels like it's much more related to team than individual performance. A friend of mine was telling me other games like Dota and LoL actually have a separate team/individual ranking. In Overwatch so far I don't think they've explained much about this, so we can only speculate :(
