<3 work

First oncall shift in orthopaedics last night was... calm. which is good! not so calm for the other ward, or for my specialist tbh. Poor Mr W. I'll buy him coffee tomorrow, or something.

he's had a bad week ok (also my bosses are adorable??)

I'm happily settling down in the department for now. A bit in love with my work schedule for the next week -- oncall with Mr. W (again!) on Monday, half day shift on Tuesday, clinic assistant for Mr. W on Wednesday, attending a blood transfusion safety course on Thursday, then day off on Saturday. EXCELLENT. I don't know if the roster-maker is deliberately arranging for me to be constantly working with my mentor, but I am okie doke with this

A few of my Medical Officer bosses are sitting for their masters exam in a week from now. Technically they're on study leave but a couple of them were still wandering around the ward at 3am like zombies. Very odd...

I've been in the ICU for so long before this, dealing with intubated/sedated patients, that having to actually talk to people has been A Thing. We get a lot of elderly patients admitted to orthopaedics, and most of them just want an ear to listen to their troubles... even if I have to listen to them make the same rant about how miserable the hospital is for an hour each day. There are little satisfying moments eg. an 80-year-old with early dementia being able to recall my name (honestly, I am delighted if anyone calls me by name. Talk about lack of self confidence eh.)

Aaand I'm off to do stuff now. Hope everyone's doing ok.
