FROM THE BEYOND (Ghostbusters 2016, Erin/Abby implied, 500wrd)

"It's called a Spiricom." Abby's voice was a cross between a gleeful twelve year old and PT Barnum. "You can communicate with ghosts through it. The plans were given to the inventor by a dead guy."

Erin was not impressed. All she saw was a cheap transistor radio. "How did he get the plans for it if he didn't have it to talk to the dead guy in the first place?"

"Shhhh!" Abby waved imperiously for silence. With a flourish, she turned it on and an ungodly loud burst of pure static filled the room. "Gah! Okay ... okay ... let's find a way to turn this down."

Erin refused to take her fingers out of her ears until the problem was solved. "So the dead sound like that TV channel that my uncle with dementia watches?"

"No, no ... you ask questions and words cut through the radio static. It scans hundreds of stations at a time and they use the power of radio wave to communicate. Now, let's ask it something." Abby's eyes shone and she was bouncing excitedly, if uncomfortably, on her crossed legs. "Let's ask it if it's here."

Something about that sounded illogical to Erin, but she decided that one had to start somewhere when it came to the paranormal. For a brief moment she felt ridiculous, but she was with Abby and Abby was so excited and encouraging, it made Erin braver than she usually was, so she took the plunge. "Hello. Are you here?"

Another burst of static filled the room and Erin grimaced, as Abby listened intently. "Ask it something else," she whispered.

"Shouldn't we confirm that something is here first?"

"Would you answer someone who said "hey, you here" because of course you're here," Abby said, using her usual circular logic. "Ask it something interesting."

Erin tried not to roll her eyes and failed. "Okay. Hey, spirit. Who does Abby have a crush on?"

    Abby gaped. "Not that interesting!"

Through the static, a clear disembodied voice answered. "Erin."

Both girl's mouths dropped open. Erin felt a thrilling chill shiver over her flesh. 'Oh my god, it said something. Oh ... my ... god."

Abby nodded, her entire face turned a striking shade of pink. "Uh. Yeah. It did. It knows your name. Not that it was answering your question or anything. Yeah, 'cause that would be stupid. I mean ... "

"Let's try again," Erin interrupted, her heart thrumming with excitement, not paying attention to Abby's obvious discomfort. "What's my name?"

Through the burst of static, the voice came through clear as day. "Erin."

Both of them squealed. "And who does Abby have a crush on?" Erin was giddy, holding Abby's hand so tightly, both of them turned numb.

The box clicked off, mysteriously. "Ooops," said Abby, with a weak laugh. "Battery's dead. Oh, well."

"Darn," said Erin, but she continued to hold Abby's hand gleefully. "But we heard that, didn't we?"

"We sure did," replied Abby, shyly. "We sure did."

      Awww, matchmaking ghosts? Sweet!

      • IngridMatthewsSep 01, 2016 at 1:00 PM

Sort of like Spin the Spiritbox. :D (I've been watching way too much Ghost Adventures, I think.)

        Thank you so much! :D

    • panffinSep 02, 2016 at 12:37 AM

Oh my goodness this is so great! Love it so much! The ghost knows what's up 😏😏

      • IngridMatthewsSep 02, 2016 at 6:13 AM

Thank you! Wisdom from the Great Beyond. :D

Awww! You know, I probably should add the new Ghostbusters film to my to watch list - especially if it's femslashy!

      • panffinSep 02, 2016 at 1:34 AM

It's really great! Apparently the movie's back in cinemas for the weekend? Well, it's not for me so I'm not sure.

There's no explicit femslash in it, but Holtzmann is pretty damn queer for sure hahaha. I see a lot of ships springing from the movie, although most popular seems to be Erin/Holtz. (except personally i feel Abby/Erin makes more sense cause they have a past together)

As long as it isn't mean about the subtext the way Rizzoli & Isles ended up, I'd be happy! I'm not that keen on movie theaters for many reasons - they're very loud and often the wheelchair spaces aren't in the best locations to watch without feeling like you're in the way, so I'll keep an eye out for it on the streaming services and iTunes.

        Edited because autocorrect hates me

      • panffinSep 02, 2016 at 2:04 AM

Ah I see, well yeah it has a hella lot of gay subtext so don't worry :D

I don't know if they're streaming anywhere yet? Not even sure when the blu-ray will be out o:

      • IngridMatthewsSep 02, 2016 at 6:13 AM

Definitely watch it. Femslashy and honestly funny. We all laughed a lot in the theater.

NEWBORN (Star Wars, Leia, Han, Ben & Chewie, G, 500w)

Two days after Ben is born, Leia winds a sling around her chest and tucks him inside before going back to the business of rooting the Empire out of their last strongholds. She attends briefings, feeding him between presentations and carries him easily through the base, always busy.

Han meets up with her on occasion, takes a peek inside of the sling and suddenly remembers he's volunteered for another reconnaissance assignment, somewhere by The Rim. He quickly kisses her forehead before running down the hallway back to his ship and Leia returns to work without missing a beat.

Everyone in the Alliance is busy. Fighting a war is the quick part, rebuilding a civilization from the ashes is time-consuming work. Being duty-bound is part of every day life on the base so no one questions Leia and Han's work ethic, even if the former is somewhat more determined than usual and Han's is somewhat newfound.

No one except for Chewbacca, who looks between Leia and Han with a heavy scowl every time they stride in separate directions, baby Ben bouncing in the sling. He ignores Han's slaps on the back when Han notices his frown and works on the Falcon quietly, always keeping one eye on Leia and Ben, becoming more discontent by the minute.

One day there's a mandatory meeting held in the private conference room, generals only. Chewbacca was decorated a general after the Battle of Yavin so he attends, along with Leia and Han, the baby a cloth covered lump between them. It's a strategy session, long and complicated and Han's already shifting in his seat restless. Leia is distracted as well -- Ben is squirming and crying softly for no apparent reason, so Chewbacca holds out his huge arms to her, offering to take him.

There's no hesitation, Leia hands Chewbacca her newborn child as easily as she'd trust him with her life. He's so tiny in Chewie's gentle embrace and his soft brown fur covers Ben like a blanket, thick locks of it clutched in his tiny hands. Chewie softly growls in a sing-song manner, a Wookie coo of comfort and Ben giggles, perhaps for the first time.

Leia is the first to notice the sounds, her attention drawn away from the charts and techno-grids. She watches Ben's reactions to Chewie, she sees her child at last and there's a bright glow of wonder in her eyes. It takes Han a moment longer to follow her line of vision and soon he's as enraptured as she is, with this life they've made together.

Chewie continues to rock Ben as they both rise and move in closer, the rest of the meeting forgotten. When Leia reaches out to take Ben back, not to put in the sling, but to actually hold in her arms, Han is next to her, both looking down at their son with amazement and love.

The room files out quietly then, with knowing looks and Chewie, grinning, closes the door behind them.

I want alllll the between Episode 6 and 7 fic (and possibly once we know how Ben was tempted to the dark, all the "AU - Ben Never Fell" fic because someone figures out how to step in).

      • AnonCallKedrickSep 03, 2016 at 12:09 PM

Kylo hints that Han was a flaky Dad (which isn't a stretch) and I think the implication that Mom was too busy with Very Important Things had something do with him being already damaged by the time he got to Luke, but because he was in a new setting, Luke didn't notice until it was too late. Uncle Chewie could only step in so much.

Thank you for the comment and the community! :D

    • panffinSep 03, 2016 at 11:47 AM

My only exposure to the franchise was that recent movie that came out, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this! It's so adorable :D

      • AnonCallKedrickSep 03, 2016 at 12:09 PM

Thank you! Start with A New Hope if you get a chance, you won't regret it.

  • AnonCallKedrickSep 01, 2016 at 7:16 AM

Hi! Thank you for the community. Do we post the fic to the prompt post or a separate post to the community with the fic? Anon or real name required?

    • AutocorrectedSep 01, 2016 at 7:19 AM

Sorry! As a comment to the prompt, please. And I'm happy for people to either be anon, fannish id or real name.

      • AnonCallKedrickSep 01, 2016 at 7:19 AM

No problem, it's always good to make sure. :D

      • AutocorrectedSep 01, 2016 at 7:23 AMΔ

From poking around, if we did it as separate entries for each fic, it'd soon be tricky to find anything in a panfandom comm as we've got so few tags to use. I was thinking that i could list fills in the body of the post to make them easier to find?

... and autocorrect attacks again. At this rate i should just turn it off!

      • AnonCallKedrickSep 01, 2016 at 7:27 AM

That would work for me. You'd run out of tags pretty quick.
