Alaska, one of the best times of my life

Alaska, one of the best times of my life

In 2014 I was invited out to visit my brother stationed out in Fairbanks, Alaska. He wanted to take me along on a roadtrip with him and his family across as much of Alaska as possible. We spent about three weeks driving, hiking, camping and just enjoying each others company(drinks! moonshine! fish! jerky! ramen?!).

Was so happy to look back to these pictures and see most were all geotagged by my phone back then. Here is a map so y'all can get a general idea of how much of Alaska was covered! It's such a huge state, there is still so much more to see!

And with that, I'll be sharing with y'all most of what I saw. Enjoy! Oh and BTW... VISIT ALASKA!!!!

On the way to Exit Glacier:

Exit Glacier: The most physically demanding hike I've ever done, working so hard to get to this point was such a rewarding experience. Here is an exerpt from Alaska.org about this particular trail at Exit Glacier:

If you’re looking for more of an adventure, take the Harding Icefield Trail, which climbs 3,500 feet in 4.2 miles, and is 8.4 miles round-trip (9 miles roundtrip from the visitor center). It is a challenging day hike, but you are treated with stunning views of the 700-square-mile Harding Icefield. This massive icefield, located within Kenai Fjords National Park, is the source of 38 named glaciers, including Exit. This steep trail is best suited for in-shape hikers (might be hard on the knees, too).

Side note: It was extremely hard on my knees :P

Again, if you have the opportunity please go see Alaska. Be sure to plan accordingly! Timing and weather needs to be seriously considered, can't stress that enough!

GET YOURSELF SOME HIKING BOOTS IF YOU'RE GOING TO HIKE! I climbed Exit with an old pair of Airforce Ones... We decided to hike spontaneously, I wasn't prepared and had a very scary experience because of it.

That last posted picture could've been my last, after taking it and moving on I slipped on a heavy patch of snow. Had I not fallen the way I did I'm positive I would've been dead. No one would've known, I was alone at the time. Please prepare yourself!

I hope you all enjoyed the photos! -Rob
