Anyone have a film camera recommendation?
I need to fulfill some arts and humanities requirements for my degree and it's time to register for Fall. A friend wants to take a film photography course with me. I didn't really want to spend the money on a camera, but it's something I've always wanted to experience.
The budget is not wild, though I am going to sell my D60 as a starter kit (any interest? :D) and will have financial aid so it doesn't have to minimalist. Quality is highly valued. However, I'm not sure how much I would use a film camera beyond this class though - probably only sporadic projects.
I could maybe spend up to $700 for something super fantastic but ideally it would cost less since that would mean less money for living expenses. :-P

Buy used, resale value on film cameras these days is poop. Spend more on a good prime lens that will make the leap to digital when you're done.
Yeah, this is the best plan, something vintage but functional would be best, and if I can swap lenses, even better.
I'm going to give two recommendations; both should be relatively inexpensive but I haven't been keeping tabs on things. Both are self contained—no systems.
Thanks! I'll check these out!
I have a canon EOS film camera that always took great shots. (i'd bought a 200mm lens for it, which is why I stayed in the canon line for my dSLR - so i could use the same lenses. XD )
Also I'd recommend an older, all manual camera like an early AE-1. They're really solid cameras without a lot of bells and whistles, easy to learn and easy to use. Easy to pick up and use again after long periods of storage too.

When is your class and for how long?
It's a full 16 week course, and runs from September to December.
