Ground peasant looking for advice!

As a ground peasant aspiring to soar the sky, what are some tips in A2A 1v1 combat to improve my game??

Usually I recommend new pilots try and get into the VR room first an practice flying there. Getting a hang of reverse manouvres is quite important for 1v1 dogfighting, and the VR room is the perfect place to learn how to practice them. (Most videos on the subject mention the Warpgate as the VR room wasn't in at the time these videos were made).

The VR room also usually has other people in it that are practicing their flying, so you can try to engage them in mock duels to practice your flying. If you play as VS or TR you can use the anti-infantry nose gun in these mock dogfights to get a better idea of whether you hit them as the Light PPA and Banshee will cause an explosion upon contact, even if you can't hurt the target.

Beyond that, when flying in the open world have a little chat over the tell with good pilots that you duel. Since 1v1 Air is a more individual playstyle than most of Planetside, and because relatively few people get into it, let alone get good at it, you can usually get some good feedback or tips from talking to these people.

Is there a specific faction you'd like to get tips on?

While VR-room training may be valuable in the beginning, you'll never be fully prepared for the world at large.

The loadout I'd recommend for 1v1 air fights: -Engineer with maxed out repair tool. Light Assault is valid if you don't want to give kills to your enemies, but that's a bit dickish. -Just as finetuning, the NS-AM7 Archer may yield a couple of extra kills for you. Same goes for C-4. These are essentially secondary.

Mosquito: -Fire Suppression. Basically adds 25% to your healthpool at max level, better than Flares in air fights. (Atleast most of the time.) -As for the defense slot, there's no clear winner. I tend to stray towards NARS but all 3 have their advantages, though I'd argue that composite armour is the weakest of the 3. -Hover stability airframe for enhanced thrust(Zing!) for reverse maneuvering. -M18 Rotary. Go for zoom(Helps against Galaxies and Liberators, which you'll want to engage from afar.) and magazine size. -Hellfire Rocket Pods. Makes your ESF viable for infantry farming as well, use with Night Vision. Extended fuel tanks are also viable.

Here's what I'd recommend for TR.

No matter the faction, there's only one way to become an adept pilot and eventually an ace.

You're going to die. A lot.

However aggravating air fighting can be from time to time, the only way to truly master your ESF is to put hours upon hours into it.

If you've never really flown in PS2, it's important to understand that planes in PS2 aren't really planes; They're more like VTOLs that are barely affected by physics.

Okay, so apparently enter-and-dash didn't work properly, hopefully that's readable.

In other tips, you essentially have 2 different ways to look for targets - going high or going low.

High altitude stalking: Fly roughly 50-100m below the flight cap and look for targets at your level or below your level.

Pros: Easy to spot targets - Away from G2A missiles and other means of AA

Cons: Easy to get spotted - Easy to get jumped on

Low altitude stalking: Fly close to the ground to avoid being spotted and look for other targets flying relatively low.

Pros: Can hide and take cover behind terrain

Cons: May crash into terrain - Easy target for AA

Essentially the choice between the 2 is your preference, although mine is certainly high altitude.

Would you like to know anything in particular?

Can you think of any areas in particular, where you need help? (E.g. leading targets, picking your engagements or knowing when/how to run)
