Dems seethe after House GOP switches votes to block LGBT amendment
The House erupted in chaos Thursday morning with Democrats crying foul after Republicans hastily convinced a few of their own to switch their votes and narrowly block an amendment intended to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from discrimination. It was an unruly scene on the floor, with Democrats chanting "shame!"

Half of me is deeply frustrated by this chaos, but another half of me realizes that Congress has ALWAYS been a little chaotic.
Still, this is disheartening for the LGBT community and its allies.
what really gets me is Paul Ryan's spokesperson saying that voting against the amendment was necessary for the troops and veterans affected by the funding bill.
troops and veterans are part of the LGBT community just like the civilians they're serving. they deserve protection from discrimination, just as the civilians deserve protection from discrimination. had he or any of the GOP pointed this out, it would've effectively meant any GOP voting against the amendment was voting against the very troops and veterans they claim to care about.
