Donald Trump Is Not Entertainment

Donald Trump Is Not Entertainment

Jimmy Fallon is not a journalist. He doesn't pretend to be. He refuses to compete in the same hybrid entertainment/journalism space as John Oliver, Trevor Noah, or Stephen Colbert. Fallon admitted as much last year in an in-depth Esquire profile: "That's the way Colbert will succeed-by being him," Fallon said.

Am I really alone in thinking that he had no obligation to bring politics into the conversation? That has never been what he does. Also, I'm as far left as they come (i.e. a full blown anarcho-communist) but I'm also getting pretty tired of everyone laying the blame for Trump's success on the media. Trump has been successful because of good strategy. Rallying the underserved silent majority under a nationalistic campaign was and pretty much will always be a solid strategy. The only people to blame here are the voters and politicians who have allowed such a huge portion of the population to become so alienated that they fell for it. Or just capitalism. This is also just late stage capitalism in action.
