Go without insurance for 63 days or longer, and GOPcare requires you to pay a 30% surcharge on your premium for a year.

Under GOP bill, anyone who goes w/o health coverage for two months or more would face a 30% surcharge on premiums for a year.

The truth about insurance: They pay people full time to find a way to tell you that you're not covered. Who's going to bat for me? Who's going to work full time to make sure that I get my money's worth when I'm sick?
ACA is brand new and now they're scrapping it. It's laughable to think that in 40 years that I'll have anything to depend on. It'll change every year and the only constant will be our money leaving our bank accounts to never be seen again.
And meanwhile, on an unrelated note, those insurance CEOs are going to get a nice big tax break under this new GOPcare plan.
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. So if you go off insurance, instead of fining you until you buy insurance, they will charge you once you buy insurance again. So of course you wouldn't decide to go back on insurance unless you were really desperately in need of healthcare. Which of course means you're going to be a net drain on the insurance company's assets, even with the 30% surcharge.
The individual mandate was understandably unpopular, but at least it was logically consistent. This one just makes no sense at all. How about instead of punishing people, we just have each state administer a public health plan providing basic coverage? Everyone gets put on it if they don't have other health insurance. But no, that would mildly undercut private insurers and give the state more leverage to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies. Which of course means that it's "socialism" in the eyes of the GOP.
My question is if they added ridiculously horrible stuff like this so they can remove it in debate and make it seem like they're improving.
That's entirely possible. That's probably why they had the part about defunding Planned Parenthood for one year.
