Hill Republicans despondent over Trump
Hill Republicans despondent over Trump
Senate Republicans have tried to work with Donald Trump. They've offered gentle advice and firm guidance, hoping he'll morph into a general election candidate who won't kill their chances of keeping the Senate, or better yet, will give Hillary Clinton a run for her money. None of it has worked.

Despondent, yes, but enough to actually do anything about it? Paul Ryan's statement last week that Trump is a racist and then the next day clarifying that yes - he still supports him just doesn't cut it. Trump's comments today especially have really doubled down on the hate-mongering against Muslims in particular. This is well past the point of having a less than ideal candidate but swallowing your pride and supporting him anyway for the good of the party - this man is clearly very dangerous and to support him politically is just downright immoral.
I think it's a little pathetic how you called him a racist there but sorry pal, Muslims aren't a race, same with Mexicans. It literally details in the Quran to kill infidels (me and you) and you attempt to stick up for them? You're writing your own death sentence, just look at Germany or the infamous Sweden. It's not hate-mongering, it's bringing awareness to the issue. Not to mention Muslims are ordered to kill homosexuals too (they throw them off buildings in their 3rd world shitholes) yet liberals advocate equality. Nice double-think.
Hey cool, you're the first person to reply to one of my comments on IMZY and you sound like you belong over on reddit, too. Don't pull that "Muslims aren't a race" stuff like the Nazis and "The Jews aren't a race" we all know what the heck he's talking about and if you want to be super duper pedantic it's still just straight up bigotry. You say that Muslims are commanded to kill homosexuals? It says the same damn thing in the Bible, but luckily the vast majority of Christians basically ignore that bit, just the same as most Muslims ignore the more violent parts of their own holy books - I don't pretend to entirely get organized religion but so long as their adherents can use a bit of their better judgement they're AOK by me.
As for the stuff about mexicans? Man eff off, what are you even on about. The idea that anyone could possibly defend Trump and his statements at this point is ludicrous.
Seriously! I kind of wish there was a downvote button on Imzy now. This kind of abuse and hatred should not be tolerated. At least there's a report button!
Oh okay, right. Sorry to infringe on the safespace.
Asshole-free zone is more accurate.
I'm an asshole because I have a dissenting opinion? Go back to Reddit and spare the rest of us a headache.
I'm pretty sure you're the one here who doesn't quite fit in.
Right, you're just the type of person to want an echo chamber.
I don't want or need an echo chamber.
I've been on the other side (I was a white supremacist Republican for many years until I grew up)... I know your viewpoints in and out. I lived them. I argued with leftists all the time about it... That's partly why I ended up becoming a leftist as I grew older and realized that what I was being fed from the right-wing and Ayn Rand was a bunch of bullshit.
But personally, I just don't need to constantly debate people anymore. I have no ego about this kind of thing. I have no desire to prove other people wrong. They prove themselves wrong on their own. Plus, I'm never able to get through to you people anyway, because you refuse to acknowledge the scientific evidence that disproves your viewpoints, dismissing it as "leftist academics".
It's a waste of time, in my opinion.
I hope Trump is the death of modern conservative politics.
It is kind of funny that he might actually Make America Great Again, by kicking the conservatives out of office.
If he damages the national brand to the point they are losing down ballot elections I would hope party leadership would think "hmm, maybe we should stop using dog whistle politics."
Unfortunately I don't see them moving away from their policy positions like "cutting taxes and social spending is fiscally conservative."
