yep i am it is hard to remember more than that i have to use names of things i like like my favoruite dog breed or singer or sport
I use different passwords on different sites depending on how secure I feel I need the password to be. Like my LastPass master password is super long and I usually can't remember it, but my passwords for simple online services or accounts might only be 12-15 characters long. I don't like writing down the exact password in case someone finds the note where I wrote it and can figure out which service it is connected to, so instead, I write down coded messages, often using Arabic words to further secure it, so worst case scenario is I forget what my coded message meant, but I'll figure it out eventually.
I use different passwords all over the place, but rather than storing them in a password manager I have a small memo that will only make sense to me to help trigger my memory should I forget. I prefer to try to remember stuff on my own rather than have a computer remember things for me, just because I don't like how much we rely on technology to remember stuff and I worry about the long-term impact that'll have on our memories, but that's just one of my quirks I guess.
I've made passwords for things that I only need to use once, so I use the same password. For serious stuff, I switch it up.
I do almost the same, it's so annoying to note like one password for one service
Glad to see it
This is the most suspicious Poll I have ever seen. You may as well ask once I've hacked your Imzy account will your other accounts be easy enough for me to get?
@Pipsy You're a leader maybe ask a wee question here?
Hi there, thanks for your concern.
While I do think the follow-up questions are a bit invasive, unless you comment what you chose there's not anyway (that I know of) for the creator of the poll to see who said what. So the concern of OP figuring out if we aren't super diligent about our cyber-security isn't too great in my eyes. I'll see what @Pipsy and @Saicred think, and whether or not the nature of the discussion changes, but for now I'll try to assume the best. While I want everyone to feel safe and protect our users from being led to give away private information, I don't want to assume the user has malicious intent either. So I'll get a second opinion from the other leaders and monitor this post.
Thanks again for reporting and keeping our community safe!
Sorry for the delay in reply love I just got a window of free time! Having a cuppa at Edinburgh castle atm. I've tracked the replies to this and will take action if any of the comments look like they're asking for too much information. Thanks for bringing it to my (our) attention❤️
Mind get yersel some tablet. It goes well with tea.
Done! Can't pass by the opportunity to get that while I'm here👍🏽
Have fun.
I'm glad no one answered Yes yet. I know people that does that even if it's a bad habit.
the follow up question I got was a little suspicious actually...
Yeah. I might actually flag this
what makes you afraid with this poll? I'm curious about it. This is a serious topic.
Don't be paranoid. This is a security related question. I can myself say that I prefer to keep them in a real notepad, in an software made for it, or even in my memory.
What bit about asking questions about a brand new account asking for people's security habits up front, potentially invasive follow-up questions on comments, and suggesting that caution about being asked questions about one's security habits by a complete stranger on the internet is paranoia is the paranoid bit?
I don't get how I could do something with the poll if someone answered Yes, you have to explain me. Currently, this poll has a concern of information but honestly, you can close it if you don't feel safe, I don't mind.
I randomly generate a different password every time I sign up to a new site.
how are you keeping those?
In a safe enough place
I'm a huge fan of password managers like keepass and 1password.
If you're not using a password manager, seriously, get one. I never thought a small piece of software would improve my life so much, but I couldn't live without it now.
I'm actually considering using one but I don't know which yet. It's getting annoying to use the forgot-password button. Will have to test them I guess.
I really like 1password, but I'm also a mac user, and 1password works really well on macs and iOS devices.
A lot of folks I know use LastPass and are super happy with it.
I can't recommend a password manager enough though, legit. Its the one computer-related thing where I was like "holy crap I never realized I was missing this from my life"
And at this point in our digital lives where we're dealing with so many different passwords, not having a password manager is basically a massive risk that you shouldn't have to deal with.
I use 1password also. I'm not sure WHY I chose it over LastPass, but I've never regretted the purchase. And over time I end up using more secure passwords because I don't have to remember them.
Once I learned what a dice phrase was, I switched to those.
