Do you plan on attending/have you attended college or university?

I wish I could go back to university for the rest of my life. Missed the boat on academia and it is a real regret.

I did not do anything other than a couple of classes of college, got a cable modem support job and continued to practice my programming which I had already done as a hobby. I got into phone support for an insurance company after that, was pulled to support their call center hardware, software and phone systems shortly thereafter and got into a full time programming position after about 8 years. So you can succeed without a degree, but most don't.

I went. It's true what they say about a college diploma being the new H.S. diploma. I would strongly suggest for young'uns to go if at all possible.

That said, I'm very conflicted about the cost per value of college degrees. The great equalizer turns out to be the job market. Don't be surprised if, by chance, you wind up working next to someone with much less educational footing than you. Le sigh.

I agree with you, but I would also advise that you really consider why you're getting the degree you are, what the job market is like for potential jobs coming out, and figure out if you're okay with what all of that means. It may mean as kittxn says and you're working with people with less education or it means you're hustling every minute of every day to make it to where you're trying to go, which could mean missing out on having a balanced life.

I live in the US, so I don't know if it's different elsewhere, but I would highly suggest to anyone wavering or uncertain to go to community college for two years and transfer. I live in an area where this is frowned upon. Only "stupid" kids go there because they can't get into a "real" school. This is nonsense. Take that time to increase your GPA (even if it's decent already) find classes you like, learn whoyou already received, and then transfer to the best school you can with a determination and passion for the subject you're learning.
