Welcome to the polling community on imzy - for all your polling and public opinion purposes!
How would you describe your gender?
- i know i'm not including every gender; that would be impossible, and is why the "other" option exists. i tried to list the most common identities.
- i also know this is a very western conception of gender—feel free to critique the system in the comments.

The older I get the more disturbed I am by the way people seem to clutch and grab at labels to form identity. Like, okay, so maybe at a certain age in your life, you liked mac and cheese. Later, you liked spinach. If you label yourself a M&C, then what happens when your tastes change? I know many women who have gone through cycles--sometimes they're attracted to men, sometimes to women, sometimes to no one. Labels are restrictive and harmful. We are humans. We grow, we change. Labels can retard that process.
But also labels allow us to find other people who've experienced similar things and having words to describe your personal experience with gender or sexuality is so powerful. If you individually don't wish to label yourself then that's your choice but you can't blame labels for restricting people's growth when it's the opposite in my experience. Trying out different labels till you find one that fits is a wonderful process and shouldn't be discouraged!
Also the women in your example may be bisexual, or fluid so they would sometimes ID as gay and sometimes as straight, these are all valid, your label isn't set in stone.
if you label yourself a M&C, and your tastes change, then you change your label to reflect that! i mean, not everyone needs to label parts of themselves/their identites like this, but no one here is saying that the label you use is set in stone. your label should change to fit you; you shouldn't feel restricted to your label

What makes you think that the people choosing the identity labels you think are less legit identify as weakly with them as they do with their favourite foods?
This sounds like "colorblindness" except in terms of gender and sexuality.
I guess the main problem here is that you can't choose more than one option! Which isn't your fault. :) I'd ideally choose nonbinary and agender.
yeah... that's why i made the "more than one" option, but it'd be nice if imzy allowed to make polls with multiple answers
You all might enjoy the annual nonbinary/genderqueer survey. :) 2016's results, Twitter, Tumblr, mailing list.
Also /nonbinary!
Genderqueer/nonbinary (interchangeable for me), and genderfluid. Also "other" i guess, i don't label most genders i'm fluid between because it's too hard, but sometimes androgyne or demiguy fits really well.
I think I'm mostly male :)
