in the midst of puberty maybe
I think becoming a vampire over 65 would rule - assuming all your ills were cured. You could live a full human life and then just as it seems all over -bam- you're a vampire for all eternity.
Turned as a child on the other hand - well I'm sure we've all seen Interview with the Vampire - that is pretty traumatic as your mind ages but your body stays juvenile and never matures. I just remembered there's a kid vampire in Skyrim who constantly mentions she's a vampire, I guess in order to be taken even half way seriously!
both really young or really old would be terrible. When you're only a little kid, you're still not really able to move through the world freely because you're so small. You'll grow mentally as an immortal but you'll always be a child to everyone else and constantly need to hide your lack of guardians. As an elderly person, say 110 and suffering a lot of health issues related to age such as being frail, it would really be rotten to become a vampire as your body is falling apart and ageing.
Being a kid ruled pretty hard and I wouldn't mind being one for all of eternity.
Being 65+ on the other hand...
It's probably my lack of imagination, but why would "65 and above" be a bad age to be turned into a vampire? Surely it'd be easier to blend into a community for a long time - "That Ms Patel is ancient! She was old even when I was a kid!" Oh my dear, if only you knew... etc
I guess if you were turned at an older age, you might not be as strong, fast, etc.? But it could still make you stronger and fitter than you were as an older human, so I reckon I'd be fine with that.
I kind of assumed that in turning into a vampire one's body isn't necessarily impeded by any of the frailties that would afflict the ordinary human body, but I admit that does depend on what kind of lore you're following :")
