Cha-Ching by Hedley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8iWSaM12io (Actually Hedley have an 11-year pop-rock/pop punk/pop catalogue to go through) This is probably the poppiest of their songs though.
Hey! I had never heard of them before! I like the song :)
They're a Canadian band. Huge in Canada, but never achieved popularity outside of Canada. They play like 10000 seat venues in Canada. I saw them once at an outdoor show that my old city won.
Other great songs of theirs are Perfect, Old-School, For the Nights I Can't Remember, I Won't Let You Go (Darling) [that song is SAD], Don't Talk to Strangers, Trip, Invincible, Hello
That's strange, how come they're unknown outside of Canada?
Well, that's my playlist settled for tomorrow, thanks for sharing!
Their album just didn't get airplay in the States. Lots of Canadian artists never get popular outside of Canada. Like, Call me Maybe charted well and blew up in the States for Carly Rae Jepsen but other than that, people tend to ignore her.
Not so much in the pop scene, but the general American public doesn't care much about the Arcade Fire (also a Canadian artist) either, but they got a small boost when they won a Grammy for Album of the Year with Neighbourhoods back around 2011 and they were up against Eminem that time.
I tend to think Americans ignore Canadian artists unless they end up universally hated (think Nickleback and Justin Bieber).
Oh, Ok!
Arcade Fire are pretty well known in France at least. So that's something! :D
Makes sense, since Arcade Fire is a French-Canadian band,
Recently, a Canadian band had their final concert ever televised (The Tragically Hip), and one of things that music industry people have never understood why they never made it big outside of Canada. Despite 30 years of history and recording. (11 million people watched this concert, Canada's population is 36 million)
Honestly there are almost no importation of French-Canadian music to France apart from Celine Dion and Arcade Fire. Maybe because French people don't really understand the Canadian accent ? idk
I've heard of The Tragically Hip through the
but I knew some of their songs.
It's amazing how popular they are!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aBx0RzXmd8&list=RDMMobCaPegIhiw&index=5 Did you say every language? Like a Prayer in Hebrew :P
Nice! I love hebrew. I raise you the terrible French adaptation of Sweet Dream Are Made of This:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldm-jfw785o Hebrew Take A Walk on the Wild Side! :P
Oh my god. That video is everything!
I want to know the context!
My turn:
Qui est ce grand corbeau noir ? Who is the big black crow ? Yep...
YouTube said it's from a play. The performer is more of a comedian than a singer. I wish I knew more, but old vid is old, I wasn't even born then :( .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nbJ1viCxSU Where the Wild Roses Grow
That's okay :)
I wish I could see the play, it seems just like my type of theatre.
Very pretty!
Another terrible version of a great song, I Will Survive,
This one is truly awful, just terrible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SezoGW_z9w0 This time no Hebrew, but I remember there was a version in Hebrew... Go West
Pet Shop Boys! You know what, I was making a mixtape for my brother and this might just be the missing song! I can just imagine hear him blasting that song in his little car.
Awesome! Glad to help.
Keeping up with the theme though before I run out - Hebrew Be Prepared: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDL8H1uZN8k
Bohemian Rhapsody: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R_sPi7jj-s
I see he did a lot of Bowie covers!
BTW it's my Bowie favourite.
Yes he did! I have the CD, it's very good.
Well, mine is obviously Space Oddity, haha. I can't watch the
version from the ISS without crying.
So, Be Prepared is all that I hoped and more!
Bohemian Rhapsody on the other hand...
haha, covering Bohemian Rhapsody is pretty much signing a death sentence, always, no one is going to love it XD
Ah yeah, the Chris Hadfield one, at first it took me time to believe it was for real...
Yeah, that's for sure! Freaking Freddy Mercury sang it, you can't get better than that! :D
I followed Chris Hadfield's time on the ISS religiously. My favourite song he did is this one:
with The Barenaked Ladies. It broke my heart is such a good way. It makes me want to go to space, to do everything that I've dreamed of.
Aw, have you ever tried to study astronomy or whatnot, since you're interested in space?
I'm too bad at math to be a scientist but I do want to work for NASA TV eventually, so I can get closer to space. First thing I have to do is work on TV and I'm already halfway there. Then SPACE TV!
AWESOME!
Well, that's the dream anyway! :D
That amazing thread of Hebrew and French songs (my favorite was Take a Walk on the Wild Side) inspired me to share this, fake English by way of Italian (testing the limits of "every language" :P) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Yj_N5_P5qI
If anyone knows more about the song I'd be happy to learn. It got me through the last couple years of college as I'd listen to it writing essays.
I love that song! It's exactly how English sounded to me when I couldn't understand it. What do you want to know about it ? :)
Nothing in particular, but it's nice to hear it really sounds like English. English is my first language so I've always wondered what it sounded like to non-speakers.
Yup, it really sounds like English!
