random blabbering about queer stuff and life in general that doesn't make it onto my YouTube channel or Tumblr? iono...
The Halloween Experience
how ironic is it as an American that it's living in Japan that has made Halloween a thing for me? i mean, i still don't give much of a damn about it, but at least now i can say that i've celebrated done stuff for it and know a fair amount about it now that i've been forced to teach about it and deck myself out in costumes for 6 years.
does Japan know or care that i actually grew up not celebrating Halloween at all? that as a kid, i was literally pulled out of class whenever Halloween stuff was going on because my mom thought it was "evil" or some shit? no. Japan just knows i'm a gaijin and of course gaijin do Halloween! oh but wait, i'm not even just any gaijin i'm an American gaijin! that makes anything that i do or say about Halloween The 100% Authentic Halloween Experience™.
yeah. okay. whatever.
tomorrow will be Day 6 of having to conduct all of my classes in costume. if my costume weren't so comfortable this year, i'd be screaming bloody murder by now. this year i'm dressed up as Holtzmann from the recent Ghostbusters reboot... i keep getting comments from staff and students alike saying the costume suits me, but what do they even mean by that? jumpsuits suit me? googles suit me? inflattable proton packs that turned me into a moving punching bag suit me? looking like something out of a sci-fi comedy suits me?
let's go with googles as i now kind of like randomly wearing them just because.
anyway, one more day of this Halloween shit and i'll be free of it for another year. can't wait.
