Disney releases Maui costume that lets kids pretend to be Polynesian
The Walt Disney Company's online store is selling a brown-skinned full-body costume of Maui, the great hero of Polynesian folklore, under the apparent impression racial identity is appropriate to turn into a costume.
Disney has pulled the product, doing the standard "sorry you're offended" non-apology.
It is truly mind-boggling; I can imagine white people lost in the marketing creativity process being utterly oblivious to this, but how hard is it to ask someone with a clue if an idea is racist before it goes through the entire manufacturing and distribution process?
