    That is so adorable.

Also that expression at being called "exotic" at the bar, OMG. Just perfect.

I love how the use of non-human animals helps transcend not just specific races but cross-cultural differences. As multiracial and multicultural, it really resounds with me.

My sister has two multiracial daughters, the eldest just turned three. She looks biracial while the younger one looks monoracial. There's a marked difference in people's comments toward them. The older one is generally considered more beautiful, replete with sexist projections of future beauty queen goals, and she's already gotten "exotic" comments. Yeah, wtf, she's three!

It's heartbreaking because they hear it and internalize it without the understanding and language to describe it, no matter how hard the parents try to counteract it.

This stuff happens even before they're born. My sister and brother-in-law kept getting those "your children will be so beautiful [because they're mixed]" comments. There's no way to address those without people getting ultra-defensive.

Yeah, it's hard to push back at comments that are meant as a compliment. People will think you're being ungrateful. But really, people need to stop using the word "exotic" to describe how someone looks. That's just really dehumanizing.
