    Totally agree with the authors' points.

    You can (and should) oppose the burkini ban while still maintaining that the cultural norms which pressure women to wear a hijab are problematic.

        That's why I (and the author) are opposed to the ban. If your goal is to persuade Muslims to move away from religious orthodoxy and embrace secularism, preventing them from adhering to the tenets of their faith is fairly counterproductive. They'll just retreat further into their insulated communities and engage less with the greater French society. That's just a breeding ground for extremist ideas.
