I would have thought English would be higher, because it seems like so many people are able to communicate in English as a second language. Like, sometimes I feel like continuing to learn French is pointless because everyone in Quebec speaks English (better than we speak French)... I bet everyone in France too... most people from China and India learn English in grade school (and higher of course)...
Anyway, that's awesome.
Edit, oh duh the graphic is for native only! I bet if they did language proficiency it'd be a lot more English.
Don't diss your French knowledge!! Many countries, such as Vietnam and many Middle Eastern countries teach French as a second language, not English. I amazed my then-boyfriend (a Vietnamese linguist) by being able to carry on quite well in Vietnam, simply looking for older people and speaking French.
There are stats below for second language - as a second language, English is roughly Chinese plus Spanish combined - but this infographic is already several layers deep...
