Oh my god. That's such an insidious tactic. You can't even say there's anything wrong about that, since they're funding real research in the public interest. But if the end result is to distract from the deadliness of their product, it's clearly a net harm.
Its gaspingly mendacious, and laser pointer evilly clever:
Any research the Tobacco industry chooses to quote, or statements (claims) made, are wrapped in the branding glow of the credible altruistic research. (the more spectacular the better)
Yeah Insidious: How could those benevolent knowledgeable Doctors in authoritative white coats have anything but the reduction of harm in those clip boards.
That industry was quite capable of destroying the credibility of medicine , public service itself, even the Scientific method for ever more profit.
Thing is though, we keep on falling for it !
