Dragon Con 2016
So the con is over and I go home today. I am looking forward very much to my own bed. I am still migraine gal but it's much more manageable today so I think I'll be able to deal with the plane and such so long as I keep my earbuds in.
This con was complicated. It's probably the most difficult one I've had since I started doing this 13 years ago. Personally I was not in a good place both mentally and physically. I had more than a few freak out moments and my body was just NOT cooperating.
That said, I had a great time. The Hootenanny was so much fun and I feel like it will be even better next year because our cosplayers and people from other tracks are talking about creating things for their fandoms too. It's exciting to see people get bit with excitement you helped create. I missed all of the Firefly panels with the Tams but the panels I did get to go to were amazing.
Brett Dalton is HILARIOUS. I hated Ward like the fire of a thousand suns but now I want to see Brett come back or do awesome things just because I liked him so much. There was a girl who drew some art of Ward and Skye and showed it to him at the Q&A. He had his people bring her backstage on the DL and basically spent 10 minutes telling her how talented she is and signed her book for free. He was so silly. SO silly.
I really enjoyed the Buffy guest panels and found myself really liking James Marsters and how he talks about acting and such. It was really interesting for me to hear as a person who used to be in theater.
I think my favorite panels of the weekend were the NC-17 fanfic panel and the panel about fanfic authors who have become published authors. It felt really empowering and made me love fandom all over again. It also solidifies the fact that I REALLY want to run an Internet Fandom track. REALLY want to. The more years I think about this, the more solidified it becomes. It would be about how fandom is different on the internet. Fanfic, vids, art, youtube vlogging, tumblr, twitter, fannish charity work, and so much more. The world of fandom on the internet really is so special and diverse. If that’s something you would be interested in, please email dragon con about it. Please send in post cards. Please tell them that this is content you want to see at the convention.
So yeah. It ended with a migraine and a $500 charge on my credit card for all of the flight and hotel changes but I did it and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to.
