When I was doing physical therapy for RSI, the first thing the therapist would do was have me use an "arm bike" to exercise my forearms. It was pretty helpful. Anyway, now I've finally bought a compact version of the machine for my home. By default it only comes with foot pedals; the hand pedals are a $40 accessory.
Being something you keep on the tabletop its stability isn't quite what I'd like, and it uses some sort of magnetic mechanism instead of a large flywheel to maintain its speed. But this seems to do a pretty decent job of exercising my forearms while I'm taking a typing break.
I do find that it's difficult to do the forward-and-reverse motions with it, though, as the reverse motions tend to lift the back up due to it being so lightweight and front-heavy.
