Poachers are hacking scientific data to hunt the animals being studied
Like many scientists, Carleton University professor Steven Cooke tracks the animals he studies - in his case, fish. But his latest study is about the ways poachers, hunters and wild-life photographers are hacking the kind of scientific data he collects and using it to hunt or harass the animals being studied, from Banff National Park to Australia's ocean reefs.

Are you kidding me? That's just despicable.
Are you serious? They're killing these animals just to be assholes? It would be one thing if the wolves were preying on their livestock. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
It seems like the wildlife scientists have to start being more careful about information security. Keep the data encrypted on secure servers. Unfortunately, IT security is hard even for professionals, so I'm sure this will be difficult for them to manage.
As for the issue of people snooping on the radio collars, they could start using spread spectrum frequency hopping so that the signal is harder to intercept.
