10 Things Service Dog Handlers Want You to Know - Anything Pawsable

1.) My Service Dog Is Working When you see my partner and I out and about in public, please understand that she's doing vital work for me, even if she doesn't "look like" she's working to you. Just like when you're working, she just wants (and needs) to be left alone to do her job.

In the first 3 days of having my service animal home with me, I've already been asked for documentation twice, had at least 3 randos just come up and try to pet her without permission, and had someone just start taking pictures of her w/o asking.

The worst was literally the first night I had her and I was going to take her for a walk.

Woman in my building: "So pretty! Is that a real service dog?" Me stunned b/c my dog is wearing her vest that says on both sides SERVICE DOG: "Yes." Her: "Awww, good for you."

WTF lady. Sorry I don't look like I need a service dog, or that you think I'm a schmuck who will just put a service dog vest on a pet.

Also, I can't really lend her, "aww, good for you," the condescending tone it was delivered in, as if I tied my shoes by myself for the first time.

But even with all of this to deal with, my new baby girl Sasha is making a huge difference in my life.
