What d'you reckon, insomniacs?
Not having much personal experience of insomnia, I don't have an opinion from that viewpoint. As a reader, I'm dubious about inferring anything about an author from one scene in one of their works. Then again, I don't think the blogger is trying for intellectual rigour; I got the distinct impression she was just rambling on until she hits her word count - and rambling on until you hit your word count is something I do have a lot of personal experience with.
It is true that there are lots of passages about sleep(lessness) in Shakespeare, but I'm not sure if we can take these to say too much about himself. I'd always be careful to link his work too closely to him as a person. But it would make me feel a little better about my own insomnia if I had that in common with Shakespeare. :D
I think in many instances, as in the Macbeth example, and also in Julius Caesar and ... Richard II (I think? One of the all those kings!) insomnia is connected with guilt, which makes sense.
