A place for social dancers of all kinds to chat, find events and, of course, post cool dance videos.
Introduce Yourself!
Welcome to Social Dance! This is the #1 (and so far, only) Imzy community for social dancers. We welcome dancers of all experience levels, from the ballet-since-birth to the never-stepped-on-a-dance-floor. You can ask questions, post pictures/videos of yourself or others, share setlists, promote events or just hang out.
And if we're gonna hang out, we should introduce ourselves. So what can I call you? What do you like to dance? What would you like to try? How long have you been dancing? What's your favourite ice cream topping? Answer as many of these questions as you'd like and get to know your fellow dancers.
I'm beginning to experiment with tags in this group, so we can collect posts by style of dance. If you dance a style that's not currently a tag, make sure you let me know. I'll add it!

Hello dears! I'm Kendra/KD/kchalk. My home scene is Portland, Oregon blues, though the highest concentration of great dances I've ever had was at MFeX in San Francisco this year. Besides fusion-y blues, I've some tango background-- free classes from Alex Krebs during undergrad. Realizing I'm a fusion dancer more than blues is something of an identity... revelation for me. I'm still getting used to the label.
I like my ice cream full of stuff! Brownies, caramel, fudge, nuts off all kinds, toffee, berries, esp blueberries--these are the most important ones.
Hey Kendra, welcome to Imzy and Social Dance! So, what is fusion, really? I've seen some of our mutual friends talking about it, and I have some guesses from the name, but I'm not real clear on how it actually goes. Do people just lead moves from whatever dance styles they know? How does that go for follows?
Thanks! Answers to your fusion questions in the fusion thread here.
Hello dance fans! I am Alex, in the Maritimes, and I dance mostly Swing, Blues, and Contra (you may see a connection in there somewhere.) I have been dancing about 3 years now and tried dozens of styles and have a community dance group of almost 600 people. My favorite ice cream topping is strawberry, sorry Esther does this make us not friends?
Come on, Alex, I'm not gonna ruin our friendship just because you're wrong about ice cream. This is a social dance community; I'm trying to be sociable.
Speaking of being sociable, did you still want to go to the Contra on Saturday?
Yeah, totally!
I'll get things started. I'm Esther, I'm in the Maritimes and mostly I dance Contra. I've got some friends in the blues, swing and English Country communities here, though, so I've been branching out a bit this spring. I've been Contra dancing for about five years, and calling Contras for one. And obviously butterscotch and pralines are (collectively) the best ice cream topping.
