Solarpunk-a genre, a rebellion against popular dystopia through green tech and an emphasis on community & craftsmanship.
Forms of Bartering in a Solarpunk Society
This is one of the most obvious changes that would have to made in a solarpunk society, that I'm struggling a bit with. If the government is gonna be dismantled, with freedom of migration between communities - then, obviously, our current system of currency isn't gonna be very feasible. One option would maybe be growing and trading vegetable; another option would maybe be doing small tasks in exchange of items. There would also be no such thing as private property, although personal property would still exist (this seems to scare anti-socialists the most).
What are your thoughts?

See Hans Widmer's Bolo'Bolo;

Balanced communities of modest scale can function on a premise of open reciprocal production, where people's work is led by their proclivities. People produce freely and on-demand for their neighbors to their degree of comfort in expectation of reciprocity in meeting their needs from the rest of the community. There is no need for direct equal exchanges of value as long as the balance in the community meets everyone's general demand. This can also be leveraged by community-owned automation which also leads to more generalization in production as the trend in evolving production technology is toward smaller, fewer, different machines capable of increasingly diverse production.
That sounds awesome! <3
I forgot a more recent book by Hans Widmer which was developed in his more recent work in the Swiss commune movement.

Would a blockchain currency, like bitcoin or ethereum, work? There'd be no need for a central government or authority to manage this money, and it's value is based on the people using it, regardless of their geographical or national place.
I don't know how likely there being no government is, exactly. I'd think it's more likely there's a heavily decentralized system of local governments. In any case, I think in the sort of system you describe a system based on bartering and doing favors for people in exchange for favors.
