Trope of the Week #19: Breaking the Rules
Being that Spock and Nyota are in Starfleet, there's understandably a lot of rules for them to follow and regulations they must uphold. Which got me to thinking: do you think they've ever had to break (or even just bend) the rules in order to be in each other's company? Or even just being together in general? Let me know!

One of my favorites is canon in the comics spock and a landing party are stuck on a planet... reasons make the Enterprise have to leave them NY steals a shuttle to get them back (sum of it is I'm a go save my stupid Vulcan boyfriend's stupid Vulcan ass... best part is an admiral is on board Jim tells him to stuff it till he gets his crew back and the tells S/U their to be confined to quarters TOGETHER
Omg, that sounds amazing. Do you know what the comic was? I may wanna look into that lol
Not off the top of my head but will look for it soon as I get home
Issue 4 of the last big run Galileo 7 part 2
Confined to quarters TOGETHER
Thanks for the share! I so need to catch up with the comics.
I think this trope could very easily be canon, since they clearly don’t want others to know about them in the 2009 movie—at least not while they’re on duty. I don’t know if it’s ever been established that relationships between a commander and cadet are prohibited, but nevertheless I feel like they would keep their relationship private as to not influence the advancement of their careers. The first academy fics that I thought of for this prompt were Like a Fire in the Sky and Insouciance.
And another thing to consider is if they would break any rules while on the Enterprise. In general I imagine that they’re very professional and work oriented, but I still indulge in the occasional headcanon about them letting loose every now and then. So with that I would suggest this oneshot from An Accumulation of Immense Brevity, which is not only super cute but also hilarious.
(After I wrote this, I realized that all these fics are from the same author. Usually I try to mix it up when I suggest things, so I apologize for that. But they’re all some of my favorites, so hopefully that’s okay!)
Spock subverts the rules in the Starfleet Academy comics by getting security clearance to an archive for Nyota when he realises she's about to access it without permission. She isn't aware of his actions until she's in trouble with Admiral Marcus.
I was 1701% there for that!!!
