26 Times Tumblr Got Real About Chronic Pain
"If we don't say it hurts, it hurts. If we say it hurts, it really fucking hurts."

a little humour for anyone who needs it

Me: “I have a debilitating chronic illness that causes persistent fatigue and pain. It often prevents me from engaging in everyday activities such as leaving the house, meeting with friends or even standing for short periods of time.”
Someone: “Have you tried exercising?”
AAGGGHHHH!
trying to get it through their thick skulls that YOU DO EXERCISE BUT IT FREAKING HURTS... you'd have more luck explaining it to an infant.
I went grocery shopping. That was fucking exercise. Shut. Up.
i make myself walk up to 10km because i'm always in a hurry to hatch pokemon eggs, if that isn't exercise i don't know what is!
Last time I went to the regular doctor (after I lost 70 lbs).
Him: You're doing great on the weight loss! How's the exercise going.
Me: Same as it was. I don't. Still in too much pain.
Him: Yeah, joint pain gets worse when you lose weight.
Me: You said it was worse because I was too fat.
Him: Well, any changes will cause joints to hurt.
Me: Or it could be the EDS.
Him: Yeah. That causes chronic pain. You could take ibuprofen.
Me: Except I'm allergic to it.
Him: looks at chart Except you're allergic to it.
examines my knee which is obviously swollen even through my pants
Him: Yeah, have you seen someone for this.
Me: Yes. Many times.
Him: I could give you a narcotic prescription so you could exercise more comfortably.
Me: Or I could continue with the diet to lose weight and walk whenever I'm comfortable enough to do so as I have been.
Him: Well, if that works for you.
god so many doctors are thick as shit!
I just snorted my tea.
It's frustrating when I get excited and share how I was able to go on a longer walk without too much pain and they go "maybe you just need to exercise more if walks are so hard". Basically any time when people talk about you getting more exercise or any of lifestyle change in response to saying something about chronic pain you experience.
