New opioid douses pain without being addictive or deadly in primates
While the opioid epidemic continues kill more than 40 American every day, researchers and health experts are frantically searching for ways to curtail use of the highly addictive, pain-quenching drugs. In March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention even released new guidelines directing doctors to simply refrain from prescribing opioids.
It'll be interesting if this comes to pass and if these become available on the market - I know that I for one could use this in managing my chronic pain, if it's for real.

i mean the psychoactive effects of opioids can be very good for some people with chronic pain, so idk how i feel about this. i don't like how this is pitting people with one illness (addiction) against people with other illnesses (pain).
buuuut if those opioids have less side effects than the others that would maybe finally be an option for me so that would be nice anyway
Yeah mostly I'm interested in this because I really do not like the psychoactive effects of opioids, so even when I'm in desperate enough pain to use them I generally avoid them (and smoke weed instead, which has its own share of issues).
Accurate.
I feel for the monkeys, though.
That would be so amazing. It would eliminate doctors and organizations excuses of the medication being addictive to not give them to people.
