A place to talk original fiction.
Introduction Thread
I'm nice, so I'm going to make this an easy introductory thread. None of that awkward first day of school faux bonding activity garbage. I've got just two questions for you guys.
What's your name?
What's on your mind? (This is where you talk about that story that's been haunting your dreams since your were in, like, middle school)

Hi all
My name is Carrie. I've been writing since elementary school and have a couple short stories and a full novel manuscript under my belt but nothing published.
My Muse is quite active but I've been having trouble getting myself going lately, so I'm hoping finding a nice little group like this will help me some.
Nice to meet you all!
Nice to meet you!!
Hello Carrie!
Getting going is such a pain in the butt. I'll try my best to think up some good discussions and activities to push us bum writers into the writing zone.
(Like say a ...Highway to the writing zone?)
Hi! I'm Dawn here on Imzy.
I mainly write m/m stuff. I'm on the verge of getting a first draft of a short story done (around 25k so far), and I've been low-key working on a longer fantasy novel for about a year, which would be done by now if I didn't have periods of no productivity.
Nice to meet everybody!
Hi! Feast or famine is sadly normal.
Yeah, I get intense periods of productivity and then something discourages me and that's it for a while.
My short story... I just need to finish this draft but I'm dragging my feet. Probably because I don't want to edit it. Sigh.
Hi Dawn :-)
I write M/M predominantly also! We can bond over that lol!
I am absolutely the same way... I seem to cycle through periods of writing, drawing and whatever else. I'm trying to be habit forming with writing but who knows.
Let's bother each other to keep at it, ha!
Hi!
My name is Lauren. Yep, lrn is Lauren without the extra garbage. The name is due to the fact that I'm terrible at pseudonyms and too chicken to RELEASE MY FULL NAME ON THE INTERENT.
Anyways.
Currently, I'm stewing over a story that centers around Modern Witches. Specifically, one witch who is a boy and named Joaquin. It's sort of a coming of age novel as he searches for his missing brother and comes to terms with his somewhat complicated identity. Also, he falls in love along the way because of course.
Literally, I'm about 2,000 words in. Yeah.
My goal has been to write about 500 words a day. Today, I've written nothing.
Before this project, I have written about 40,000 words of a scrapped fantasy novel. And a lot of fanfiction drabbles. So, much.
I'm looking to post snippets of the story, and some rambling background on characters, and plot things. You people should absolutely do the same.
I insist
I love identity themes and families and complicated relationships! Good luck on your story. (I don't read usually read witches, but otherwise it sounds right up my alley.)
Ya! I'm never read any witch novels, honestly. Hopefully I can make it cool. And readable. That'd be good.
My writerly handle is Liana Mir, aka scribblemyname.
What's on my mind is the bazillion stories that I can never seem to get all the way down and off my plate and the fact that I can apparently dream up a new novel in a day and enough of them keep hanging around that I can't stay ahead either. And I owe people original fiction stories too. :sigh:
But mostly right now, the story I can't get out of my head is probably the least important and about a new character in an old 'verse, and I haven't figured out the point of her story yet either, but she's a member of a group of former military operatives that was genetically enhanced to superhuman and is figuring out how to integrate the team she has with the family she didn't know she would have had if she entered the program because they'd been mid-adoption process when she disappeared.
I read this quote the other day...
"The way to get good ideas is to get lots of ideas and throw the bad ones away." - Linus Pauling
Literally, that's me. And probably most storytellers. It's a little sad to see some stories fade away, but they've got to go to make room for the good stuff.
Personally, I struggle with sticking to a story after I've started...
Also, you had me at genetically enhanced superhuman.
LOL
Almost every story I have has superhumans.
The problem is all the good ones and my inability so far to squelch the popcorn kittens syndrome and finish stories that are longer than a couple thousand words so I can move onto the next one without it still sitting there.
I pick one story to work and make random progress on ten others. That would be me.
We can encourage each other. :D
Every story that can have superhuman should have super humans. Which is, every story.
;-)
Yes! Encouragement buddies for the win. I have a tendency to bounce around a bit, nibbling at different things... never finishing ... anything...
People who can exclusively write one story are on someother plane of existence to be honest, ha!
Hi I'm Amber.
What's on my mind? That editing is HARD AS BALLS because of the constant arguing with ones self about if you're making things better, or worse. I'm deep into draft five of this novel (which has been in progress for almost as many years as there are drafts) and I can only hope it'll be not-crap soon.
your feelings about editing SPEAKS TO ME. I've finished stories that will never see the light of day since I can't bring myself to get through the hard slog of editing >.<;
Editing via bonfire is a strategy I've considered.
Hi, I'm Heather. I've been writing casually for a while, trying to get into a more productive swing. Have a couple of short stories and a twine game done (my main difficulty lies in actually finishing things), but I'm working on improving my stamina and getting into the habit of churning things out.
Hi! I'm Sarah. I've been writing on and off for as long as I can remember. Started with fiction, moved to poetry, and now I'm more of a hybrid writer. I like fantastical worlds and monsters, and I've recently given myself permission to write them. Now I'm working on something inspired by dreams and quantum physics (NOT a scientist, so this is hard).
Happy to find a group where I can drop writing sometimes! :)
Hi! I'm Jin.
I'm trying to get back into writing after having stopped for a long time. I have too many ideas in my minds but too few progress to show, sadly.
I have several ideas who beg for development, namely an alternative history where China establishes relationship with Pre-Columbian Ameria, a detective story whick takes place in a space port and the consulting detective uses his knowledge of emotion and the help of his ex-military stoical companion to solve crimes, and a space fantasy setting with a user of forbidden magic on exile befriending and going on adventure with an empath whose traumatic childhood suppresses his ability.
Hi all! My name is Aislynn.
Currently working on editing the final book in my Evalyce: Worldshaper series. I'm sure my publisher would love for me to finish :P. I'm also working on a new book set in the world of Evalyce, a mystery, that centres around the Technomancers, a group on briefly touched on in Worldshaper.
Hi all! ohsimone here.
I've got a veritable graveyard of stillborn ideas in my computer and Googledocs folder, but I've decided to get a little more proactive about mapping out a plan of action, so that maybe I can actually see something through from start to finish.
I'm trying these approaches on a tropey little story about a supervillain who ends up in over his head when he discovers a major conspiracy involving superheroes and government officials, while also dealing with mentoring a young aspiring superhero and the unexpected return of the person who drove him to supervillainy in the first place. Still too early to really tell if the outline mapping and character sheets and Pixar format is working, but I have high hopes!
(also, I know that sounds a lot like the MCU movies, but I swear this is for an original fic!)
