Duck Masacre of 2013

Duck Masacre of 2013

I've never owned chickens as an adult, but I did have some ducks for a short time. I forgot about it until my sister sent this picture to me today. She was at her son's baseball game when this little fella joined her. So, here's the duck tragedy that occurred at my house... My nephew has a weird talent of coming across animals. Since I live on a "farm" (actually I just have a biggish yard just outside city limits) he thought he could bring his animals to me. I usually did not accept his offerings but this one particular time I allowed 2 really fat ducks to live in my yard. One day I heard a whole heck of a lot of quacking so I peered through the blinds suspiciously to investigate. It turns out the neighbor's dog was chasing my ducks around and around my house. The ducks were in the lead for quite a while. I had no idea what to do and the dog was sort of big so I just watched (I'm human and flawed, I know). Eventually the dog got the best of the ducks and ate one. He took the other to his house for later. White feathers were EVERYWHERE! My neighbor knocked on my door and offered to buy me some new ducks but I declined because A. They were free and B. I really had no idea what I would do with them in the winter. The neighbor's dog was soon rehomed, I'm assuming because of the duck masacre but I have never asked. It's funny how a simple picture of a friendly little duck can bring back some memories of events that I'd forgotten had happened.
