Two years on from my second giant breakdown due to family/childhood stuff with regular therapy and I've got some pretty robust things that at least mitigate if not help.
First things first: am I hungry/tired/thirsty/cold? Snuggly hoodie and cuppa tend to work well. Also, for me, dim light/grey, grey skies upset me so lights on and worst case scenario, I will draw those fucking curtains.
If I'm too tired to know what to do with myself then , fine, I'm allowed some total shite to take my mind off. Classic but straightforward TV (Frasier, etc), maybe some shitty mobile games (I love a bit of farming and pretty much anything by Kairosoft is amazing!!).
If I'm at a better level than those, then Tumblr/Metafilter/long-form essays (Aeon/Nautilus)/videos about robots!/my RSS feed for interesting stuff. Or I learn some Spanish or Maths. I have a browser addon to block comments so that I can't get re-upset by people being aggressive bell-ends. No social justice stuff so I can't get re-upset that people are still so insensitive.
Key thoughts to keep in mind in order throughout:
Wise thoughts!
Thanks! Hard-won ;)
