Sushi Lovers: allergies and intolerances?
Mmmmm Sushi.
So fellow Sushi Lovers.
Do any of you have allergies or intolerances that limit the types of sushi you can enjoy. Or cause you to have to use extra caution when ordering. I feel so alone!
Items I have issues with are crab, lobster, shrimp and prawn... Not certain if it is a true allergy (thankfully I don't get a severe reaction - just unpleasant). Unsure if there are other items I should also avoid too.
How does a Sushi Lover navigate such a thing?




One of my sushi-loving friends is allergic to shellfish like you. Most rolls have their ingredients listed, which really helps him. Also, its very easy to avoid things you don't like if you stick with nigiri or sashimi, which are the best things to get at better sushi restaurants anyways. I think he usually gets nigiri omakase and lets the chef know about his allergy, so he gets a plate of assorted nigiri without those items.
My sister in law has a very strict diet. Can't have many things. She spoke directly with the sushi chef yesterday and he was super helpful in narrowing down choices or altering the roll.
