Poll: Who Makes The Most Convincing Villain in J2 Fiction?
I always have a tough time casting my villains, so I made a poll:-
And now you've cast your vote...
If your favourite didn't make the list who do you prefer? Many writers seem to pick somebody from Jensen and Jared's social circle/past projects such as Michael Rosenbaum or Jessica Alba.
Is there anyone who, if they are written as the villain, will pull you out of the story or stop you from reading?

I also have a new favorite in Timothy Omnundson. I think he makes for a terrific bad guy. Jared does as well. His 'Michael' while inhabiting Sam was chilling. Both boys can do a mean bad guy, but I think Jared squeezes Jensen out by a hair.
I don't know. Psycho!Jensen is one of my faves. He's so good at it and really enjoys playing an evil character. I was disappointed in the way demon!Dean was written. I think there could have been a lot more for Jensen to sink his teeth into. Soulless!Sam wasn't so much evil and amoral, but I thought he was wonderful. It really does depend on the fic.
I was thinking more of Samifer than soulless!Sam when thinking of dark!Jared and I have to be honest vampire!Jensen was chilling and given almost as much screen time as demon!Dean - that story line was such a let down from the writers. Jensen's sweet puppy to psycho!Tom Hanniger in MBV was a wonderful performance too. So, yes for me either will work well in a good fic.
Maybe I need to backpedal a bit on my comment and say it's only goes as far as the show goes. it's because at least on the show I've never seen a really malevolent!Dean. I know in fic he can be scary as heck and yes Psycho!Jensen is deliciously wonderful. So I think I think writing wise, anyone can be terrible, in fact I love rotating who the big bad is going to be in my stories, but J2 can be the most evil of them all. On the show, I think Sam wins, so far. They never made Dean evil enough when he was souless. I think they were afraid of what it might do to the show. backpedal, backpedal, backpedal LOL
LOL! Yes, and the pair of them on the road, both evil at the same time are terrifying : )
Ooh, yes! How could I have left out Timothy Omnudson! And yes, I do love evil Jensen. The talent they both have is something else but there is something incredible about the way that Jared can switch from such a puppy-man to something of pure menace.
Jensen as the shifter in season one was pretty amazing, too. There are glimpses of his face that are nothing at all like Dean, or Jensen--just pure evil for the sake of it. It's a shame he doesn't get to play evil more often. And I do so agree with him being awesome as a vampire. That long look at him sitting with the bloody machete, waiting for Sam and Samuel...rrrowrrr.
It really does depend on the writing. All of the above can be villainous extensions of their time on the show, or, I've seen many of them written as more sympathetic characters than they were on the show. It's just how well the author uses them.
I'm not sure how hard it would be to get re-work my feelings on a sympathetic version of some of these, it would be easier to picture the actors that do conventions that way - but yes, with a good writing the associated SPN character should fall away almost entirely. I have never seen a sympathetic Lehne or Heyerdahl in fic - so if you know of any I'd love to give them a try. I think that's a measure of how wonderfully they owned Alastair and Azazel.
