Games played on tables (and sometimes floors, ottomans and parking lots).
Good games for two
I recently moved (along with my fiancé) to a new town, we don't have many friends here yet and I'm missing the gameboard nights with my old friends.
What games would you recommend to be played by two players?
We got Seven Wonders: Duel but being the only game we have so far, we've played it over and over.
Thanks!

Patchwork is an excellent two-player game, and I've heard great things about Morels as well. Jaipur is also meant for two players, as well as Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn.
I like Zombicide a lot! You can play it with 2 players and play 3 characters at a time.
Many games will have a two player version that often requires a phantom 3rd player. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Thanks, I'll check those out. The reason I was asking is exactly that: many games are "downgraded" when there are only two players and not all of those work.
Jaipur is a great 2-person game. I had fun playing it with my wife. Then we had fun teaching it to two other people.
Never heard of it, but will sure take a look. :)
My other half and I have the same issue. We play a lot of different stuff. Dice Masters, Roll for It, Smash Up, Ascension (deck building game), Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards, Dungeons and Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt board game, lots of Fluxx, Magic the Gathering...
Two players is a bit limiting but we have definitely found some great games to play. Most of these are awesome for more players as well.
Great! I want games that are good for two players, but when we have someone visiting he or she can play as well. I'll check them out.
Enjoy!
Another great one for that is zombie dice, it takes about 10 seconds to pick up and learn and I've sat playing it for 3 or 4 hours at a clip
Thanks!
I've wanted to pick that game up. It seems super fun! Saw it featured on TableTop.
Star Realms is really addicting and each deck is set up for two people. Pandemic is fun with two (although it's even more fun with more). Smallworld is pretty entertaining.
I love Pandemic and Smallworld… Should buy them soon and will check out Star Realms. Have you tried the new Pandemic spin-offs?
I highly recommend Star Realms. I haven't really played many of the spinoffs, they really churned out a lot of them, but there are a lot of people here who could tell you all about them :)
I really like Dominion, which is a deck-building game. Great for two players, but workable for up to four (even six if you make some adjustments). It's got tons of expansion packs, but even the base game alone has really high replay value.
Uhhhh yes, I've played Dominion (the core game only) and it's great. The idea of different sets of cards each games gives it a lot of replay value.
Carcassonne is a great two-player game, and can support five players for when you find a new group. It's a tile laying game, and most versions you can buy comes with expansions. I've also heard great things about Onirim, and it comes with multiple expansions.
I love Carcassone!
Valley of the Kings is a lot of fun with 2 players, but can also be played with up to four. There are also rules available for a solitaire play version.
I second Ascension (which is very similar to Star Realms btw). It really depends on what sort of themes you both are into. Wifey and I both like fantasy over sci-fi/tech, so Ascension is our go to. + Easy to add more players, + lots of expansions.
Thanks for the advice. I'll look it up!
Dead of Winter is an awesome game with a group of friends, but it comes with a great set of rules for a two player variant. You only use one aspect of the game, but that aspect would not be fun at all with two players. Under the two player version, the game is more about resource management and survival.
Also, I can't recommend any of the Command & Colors games enough. My favorites are C&C: Ancients and Battles of Westeros. Their total beer & pretzel war games that do challenge you tactically and strategically.
I've never heard of C&C, I'll check them out.
Thanks.
We're both farrr too competitive to play competitive games together, so co-op is the way to go for us.
My wife and I have gotten a lot of mileage out of Legendary Encounters - Alien. Basically a deck building game where you can play through the four alien films (no prometheus/avp). Entirely co-op, though you can add elements of competitive if you want, 2-5 players, but the more players the rougher the go.
Other good co-op ones we've enjoyed are forbidden island and pandemic, Arkham and Eldritch Horror
Interesting! I haven't thought on co-op games. Thanks.
