the newest Tales game and great for slash fangirls
And Symphonia wasn't? You're cute, there there.
Y'know, I was never very into any of the Symphonia slash pairings. Genis was a bit too young for me to put him with Lloyd (although Genis/Mithos was kind of cute), and Regal was soooo into Alicia that it was offputting.
... Oh, I guess there was Kratos/Yuan/Yggdrasil (in any combination), but there was never that much fic about it at the time.
I also had a thing for one-sided Lloyd-->Kratos but of course that wasn't a big thing either for quite understandable reasons.
Which leaves Zelos, and somehow I didn't like him with anyone. :(
Your personal leanings one way or the other hardly derail the point that there was slash aplenty for the game.
Uh, okay. I was just making conversation.
And I've been responding to your very dismissive OP (and I'm not even a fan of Zesteria).
Fine, it's gone. 9_9
:snort:
I actually really liked Zestiria and had a lot of fun with it. A few of the mechanics weren't choices I expected, but they made sense in context and didn't break the game or anything (and apparently unlike most people, I think I had the camera get suck on me only once).
For me, it was more the weird story decisions. The battle system I wasn't a huge fan of (mostly the forced human companions and the way skills worked) but I could have ignored all of that if the plot had been a bit more consistent. The weird decision to have a side quest suddenly become a main quest, the way they locked off warp locations, charging you to quick travel, the timeline which sounded like it happened hundreds of years ago and then turns out to have only been like 17, the super strange morality....
I powered through mostly for Sorey and Mikleo.
(OTOH, I did try replaying Symphonia recently and didn't get very far, so it's not free of issues either.)
I enjoyed the game because I play Tales for character interactions and I mostly liked the characters in Zestiria, but it was definitely flawed in a lot of ways not even related to the heroine drama.
Which was a silly drama anyway because obviously the heroine was Mikleo.
I'm not sure I've ever played a game that didn't lock off warp locations when they were story-relevant (even having warps is nice, though-- how many hours of walking thru Star Ocean 3...) and while at first I thought the charging for quick travel was odd, it works in the overall mechanics because of how the travel is being done (via the spirits).
Isn't the 'super strange morality' based heavily on Shinto beliefs?
While it's neither my favorite Tales game, nor the one I think is the best in the series, I enjoyed it for what it was and am looking forward to what comes next.
