My personal blog. A plethora of varied stuff n' things. And junk. Lots and lots of junk.
Considering a Food Delivery Service
I'm trying to decide if I want to try something like HomeChef or Blue Apron. I think it would be great to expand the variety of foods that we eat in this house but...I keep looking at the price and balking.
I know that it's not terribly expensive. However, I can buy food for a week for us for about $50, on average. That means that I tend to buy cheap meat and freeze it, then thaw and cook it over the week. We also eat a lot of rice and potatoes as side dishes. But, that gets pretty damn boring after awhile.
Looking at HomeChef, two meals for two people twice a week will cost me $40. And, that doesn't cover food for the rest of the week, including all the lunches I pack for my son. So, I think that it will ultimately be more expensive than me just shopping.
But, maybe it's something that I could do for a week out of every month, as a treat.

$50/week? You must be a great shopper. Our weekly bill (and there's just the 2 of us) is $125-$140! Granted that's not just food, that's, y'know, toilet paper and shampoo and all that kind of stuff, too.
Heh! Like I said, we eat a lot of cheap stuff. So, I can get a pack of chicken breasts for about $7 and freeze that, and it lasts 4 days. Then, there's stuff like spaghetti, which is dirt cheap. And, we'll eat rice and potatoes. A jar of peanut butter and jelly will last a good, long time.
For adding flavor to chicken, I love these things! https://www.campbells.com/sauces/our-sauces/
What costs the most is getting snack food for my son's lunches. I send him in with a sandwich, chips and some sort of fruit or carrots or something. Cheese sticks are always a good option.
I luck out because my in-laws buy us household goods for Christmas, which I love. So, I currently have enough shampoo, toilet paper, soap, etc. to last several months.
