My own fiction, books, TV, movies and especially vampires ... probably. Maybe a few recipes. (beren_writes on LJ)
Posting and Caring
Something just hit me about Tumblr compared to other social media sites.
On Tumblr I don't five a flying fu.. two hoots what I post. I don't care what my followers think or how they will react, and I rarely put much thought into it. Mostly I just hit the reblog button. I don't even care enough to tag - sorry, I just don't. The only things I try to tag responsibly are spoilers because I don't want to be THAT person :).
Every other social media site, even Facebook, heaven help me, I care.
Sometimes my posts might be ravings about nothing, but I still care how I present it, how I spell it, what I'm saying, how its tagged etc.
That probably says a great deal about how disconnected I feel from Tumblr and I think it comes back to one simple thing communication. You can even communicate better on Twitter than on Tumblr and that only has 140 chars!
[Edit - thought some more] : On Tumblr I feel disconnected from those around me. I don't look at user names and I rarely know who's posting what (unless it's moonlettuce and then I can usually guess ;)). My brain just goes, oh, that's pretty, reblog, oh, that sounds interesting. On LJ it feels much more like I know people, even if we've only exchanged a few words over the years. Same on here, even though I'm not quite feeling the same level of love for the platform yet :). Imzy feels much more connected, like Livejournal, not like Tumblr.
What about you?

Yeah, I totally agree. It's very difficult to make any sort of personal connection on Tumblr. I've managed it a couple of times but with those people we switched to other methods of communication (Twitter DMs, email etc) but it's just so hard on Tumblr even with the new IM function.
I very rarely actually read my dashboard unless I'm particularly bored. I just check two or three blogs that post a lot of whatever fandom I'm currently into and reblog from there.
I am terrible at Tumblr.
It just feels so isolating. I look at the pretty, but most of the talking on there seems to be all about anger, at other people or the world. It never feels like a very happy place to me.
I don't think it's too bad if you stick to your fandom corners. The blogs I follow are mostly full of squee but yeah overall much anger and I think that might be down to the average age of the user base? Mostly seems to be teens and early 20s peeps. I feel ancient on Tumblr
Yeah, me too. Age never seemed to be an issue back on LJ, as long as you were old enough to read the fic, but Tumblr seems to assume everyone is a teen or in their early 20s. I hate to admit it, but sometimes I do feel like yelling at the top of my lung, "Oh for god's sake grow up" - LOL
Even some of the fandom places seem to get angsty - I think it's because it's so much harder to stream stuff out and no one is a mod of the comm, as it were. I know there were fandom wars on LJ, some amazing ones actually, but I think it must have been much easier to ignore them.
Yeah, I totally know what you mean. I did a small rant about ageism in fandom a few weeks back and I have to say that I was happy to see it get a ton of reblogs. Made me feel less old and alone in the Tumblr void.
This is one of the reasons I really hope Imzy takes off is I'd love to get back to the way things were on LJ. LJ is so dead these days.
Me too, me too :) It's such a shame - but I think LJ problem is it makes resharing and posting the pretty so hard. Imzy seems to have thought of this, especially with them working on multiple image posts.
Yeah, it really seems to be going for the best of LJ and Tumblr which I like. I mean already someone who follows me on Tumblr has had several conversations on here with me. I don't think we've interacted much at all on Tumblr itself aside from reblogging each other
Yay for actual talking :) I've done more talking on Imzy in the last couple of weeks than I've done on LJ or Tumblr in the last years I think.
Now if we can only tempt everyone over :)
I hope once it goes properly live more people will join
