A historical factoid
I stress the 'oid' in 'factoid' here, because someone just casually mentioned this in conversation and I haven't been able to find a separate, more reliable source. But supposedly when English people started drinking tea, their dental health improved. Tea drunk without milk and sugar has been shown to be good for your teeth (even as it stains them), and I am told this was of significant benefit a few hundred years ago.

I've done some research and believe this to be a factoid just like you said.
Alas.
