AdBlock Plus wants to help you pay the sites you visit most

AdBlock Plus wants to help you pay the sites you visit most

TechCrunch reports that the new service is called Flattr Plus and comes after Eyeo, the company behind AdBlock Plus, made a small investment in its partner. The payment platform will operate as a browser extension that automatically tracks browsing activity and donates an amount based on the length and regularity of a person's visits.

Smart. Become the gatekeeper, then charge to go through the gate. Great business model.

I do genuinely think that AdBlock are trying to do what's best for the internet as a whole. While uBlock Origin blocks all ads (thus removing all income for the sites), AdBlock Plus allows for some ads which meet their standards, promoting better advertising and retaining some income. Yet people point that out as a bad thing.

I love this idea. I read a lot of stories on some news sites that have ads that interfere with one's ability to read the content itself. I want to support these sites, but don't want to close a new prompt every time I scroll down a page.
