The Floyd Utility Set - FLOYD

The Floyd Utility Set - FLOYD

So I really like neet things like this. This is a set of table legs that you can attach to any flat surface. Making it so you can have a table from a plank or what ever. I do find the price tag a bit much though what are all your thougs about it.

This reminds me of 2x4basics.com which is a similar idea. You just buy the brackets and then build various sturdy structures and workbenches from standard harware store lumber.

      I like these. http://2x4basics.com/WorkBench-Legs.html

however, they aren't pretty enough for where I want to put the table.

I will probably get some for my garage table i want to build.

I agree that they are not as aesthetically appealing as the Floyd kit. But I do have one tip for making a workbench look and feel nicer. When you buy the Plywood or MDF or whatever for the tabletop, also get an equal sized piece of thin 1/8" hardboard. In particular, one kind of hardboard you can get is white on one side with a finish that looks good and feels good to the touch. If you top your workbench with it, the workbench looks 10x nicer. And if it gets dingy, just replace that one piece and everything looks new again.

OTOH, there is only so much aesthetics to be had when you are building out of unsanded and unstained pine 2x4s. :)

        Much truth in this statement.

    These look dope

    • InaDec 14, 2016 at 3:05 PM

      They do look way cool.

Interesting idea, especially if you have limited space and need a custom length. I agree that it's a touch spendy, though.

it is certainly nicer looking than saw horses or cinder blocks or books or milk crates or chair backs (says the queen of improvisational living)

True. But the price tag is so steep. You could do something like this for much cheaper http://www.designertrapped.com/diy-pipe-table-tutorial/ however, there is the time cost for this kind of thing.

please note that I once made a pipe bed and I can authoritatively say that plumbing threads are not meant to be weight-bearing. thankfully the dos was not sleeping underneath when the ultimate collapse took place

      • InaDec 14, 2016 at 10:13 AM

good to know. It was on my list of things to build cause it looks sooo cool.

      • katscanDec 14, 2016 at 10:16 AM

it did look cool. perhaps if you could provide additional reinforcement somehow. I wonder also if you couldn't go to the local second hand shop and find a card table that is trashed and reprise it's legs

      • katscanDec 14, 2016 at 10:16 AM

        that was autocorrect

      • InaDec 14, 2016 at 10:19 AM

True. However, most tables you find in a second-hand shop are not real wood. The reason I found those legs was I was looking for leg ideas for a table i want to make.
