The touch bar actually looks pretty cool. It really depends on how well apps support it, but it appears to be a cool tool. It is definetly more useful than generic function keys.

never thought I would be saying this, but is it possible microsoft is now more innovative?
Seems that way.
looking at what microsoft launched, I'm definitely interested and want to try it. with Apple, oh so it's thinner, great, whatever... nobody's lining up for a touch bar.
The touch bar is neat, but isn't something I would switch to Mac for. If I had the money and Apple made the Surface Studio, THAT would be a selling feature.
I love the UX of Apple better than Windows and Android. It just feels more comfortable and intuitive to me. It's also nice having everything synced up pretty seamlessly. But other than that, I'm pretty disillusioned with them. I feel like they make weird decisions to try to be "edgy" like getting rid of headphone jacks and are being "innovative" in all the wrong ways that don't actually benefit the people using their products. And while I enjoy how everything Apple tends to work well with each other, I hate how they purposely make everything incompatible with everything else in the world...
It's weird to see Microsoft cater to the artists. That's usually been Apple's turf, but lately I feel like Apple left that community behind.
Such a fun event! Has anyone else already placed their MBP orders?
I already have one. I don't replace things until they're completely broken, haha. I'm currently writing this from my iPhone 5S!
Not this time around for me, might skip this updatez
I wonder how many more people will opt for the sans touch bar option.
Is it more expensive to get it with? Did they say how much? Otherwise it at least can't hurt and could come in handy, right?
IIRC the model without it is about $300 cheaper
Ah, yeah, that's right at the amount where it would make you definitely seriously consider if you want it or not, even if you do want it. $300 is kind of a lot.
Especially when you're already paying Apple prices.
Or maybe if you're already paying Apple prices, you've decided you don't care about just throwing money away on shiny things...? Haha
You know, the only Apple product I've ever owned was an iPod. That being said, I used Macs a lot in college for campus IT. I think Apple products are in this nexus of being better than almost all of their competitors but overcharging for that benefit. I could buy a similar spec windows PC for about $1000 cheaper but I can guarantee it wouldn't work as well. Personally, I wouldn't pay that extra money because I know how to tweak and fix. But for $500, it might be a real consideration.
I would absolutely opt for that option if it had Iris 550 rather the 540. I think the touch bar is a disservice to computer productivity. Taking my eyes of the screen to look at buttons does not help my productivity. As an earlier poster mentioned, its hard to believe that Microsoft seems to be doing the innovating these days! I for one will not be buying another iPhone or MacBook (despite loving my Air (2012) and 5S).
Why the need for a 550 over the 540? If you don't mind me asking.
So the processor in the non-touch-bar option does not use the 550 (it has a lower power consumption in exchange) but I think that's BS. They already have a low power option called the MacBook. I cant believe that they cant give us a dGPU let alone the better spec'd processor w/out the touch bar. The 550 has double (I believe) the cache size (pretty sure its 64mb) and I've heard reported that provide about 50% better performance.
looks cool, but may be It's beeter to have a MagSafe
