Making files smaller without losing quality?
Me and some friends are doing video recording/editing and need to send the files to each other. However the site limits how many GB's you can store so we need to find some way for people who are recording to make the file (video&audio) smaller to send to the editors without compromising quality.
One person mentioned that .flv makes the file smaller but I don't know if this is lossless or not. I've also heard 'codecs' tossed around a lot and understand they're used for what we need but don't know which one would be best or how to find them.
So question is, what is the best way to make video&audio files smaller so they can easily be sent&received for editing?

Serious question here, but why do you need to make them smaller to send them? Why not use some kind of filesharing site or set up or rent a FTP server to share the files instead then you keep the file quality? I could see reducing the file size if its just for fun but if its something you are being paid for it might be worth it to spend a little to share the files.
Well it's for YouTube, so both fun but also we wanna keep quality high. I have looked into paying for file sharing services but I haven't seen any that'd be terribly economical as we would need to store several people's footage there, so any storage is divided by four or five. Also it'd be quicker for downloads both on editors and for me as I need to okay each video.
