Masks - Supers Tabletop RPG

I am so excited! My last play-by-post game finally wrapped up and the GM is starting up a new game. This time, we're using Masks, a supers RPG. http://www.magpiegames.com/masks/

I haven't read the rules thoroughly, yet. However, I have to say that I love the character generation. Basically, each type of hero has a template called a playbook. To make your hero, you choose powers off that template and then answer some quick and easy questions to better define their background. I think I created my character in Masks faster than any other character I've ever made, and the questions helped a ton in forming her.

For instance, I'm playing an Outsider, someone not native to Earth. So, these are the questions I had to answer:

  • Where do you come from?
  • Why did you come to Earth?
  • Why do you want to stay here (for now at least)?
  • Why do your people want you to come home?
  • Why do you care about the team?

And then I had three, specific team-related questions to answer. These help shape the team dynamics. And, each playbook asks different questions of the characters that focus on what would be important to their background. These are what I had, as an Outsider.

  • We didn’t trust each other at first, but that changed. How? Why?
  • You’ve been learning about Earth by spending time with ????.
  • You have a crush on ????? but you keep it under wraps.

But, a Protege would have questions concerning their mentor and how they came to be studying under them. A Legacy would have questions about the character's family. And, so on.

You can see all the playbooks for free, here: http://www.magpiegames.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Masks-Playbooks.pdf

I'm pretty darned excited to start playing!
