Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons, Takumi's Route Spoilers
So far, I've managed to get a good end and a bad end to Takumi's route. At this point, I know the full story and getting the other endings will just give me a bit more flavor text, if I'm going by what I experienced with Tatsuya's route.
Takumi is the son of police officers. Both of his parents and his older brother are officers. In fact, his father and brother are part of the police department's supernatural unit. (Much like the Dresden Files universe, there are people who are aware of the supernatural and the police do have a quiet and discreet unit to handle these things.) Unfortunately, Takumi's brother, Yasu, was involved in an investigation that landed him in a coma. When we start the story, Yasu has been in this coma for several years.
The story revolves around Takumi's investigation as he tries to find out what happened to Yasu. He became a private investigator in order to facilitate his searches. He does odd jobs for both human and supernaturals on the side so that he can keep himself fed and housed, but the majority of his time and effort goes into his personal investigation.
So, how does this involve the MC? Once Takumi becomes her mentor, he promises to help her find her mother, the sorceress who saddled her with her own powers. And, he has an ulterior motive for that. Rumors abound that a dark haired woman matching the description of the MCs mother was the last person to see Yasu. And, by all accounts, a powerful sorcerer was involved in the incident, somehow. So, he's pretty certain that the MCs mother is worth investigating.
The story is interesting! The whole thing revolves around a vampire mafia. You have two different familigias who are clashing, a demon who leads one family...and it was this demon who Yasu was investigating when he was attacked. So, of course, this means that Takumi and the MC get caught up in all sorts of shenanigans as they are attacked and led astray by the two factions as they war against each other.
The whole thing was very noir! There were detectives in trenchcoats and felt hats, mysterious strangers in alleyways, rain on the rooftops, sexy saxophone music...It really captured the whole gumshoe experience.
One of the things that I love about these stories is the way they incorporate the other love interests. When I read Tatsuya's route, that's when I first got to know Takumi. He came off and this incredibly sweet guy, but also very mysterious. I knew he was involved in something dangerous, but I didn't know what. And, it wasn't relative to Tatsuya's story. Takumi and Tatsuya are room mates, though, and know each other well. So, of course, the MC was going to interact with him. That's what made me want to play Takumi's route, next.
In Takumi's route, I get to know a bit more about Shinji. We end up going to Shinji to help out with the MC's powers. It turns out that she's seeing shadowy people and hearing whispers all the time. And, that is because she's been using Death Magic, magic that draws it's power from one's very soul. Every spell she casts burns a bit of her own soul and that draws her closer and closer to death. It turns out that Shinji is a Death Mage, as well. He's at the point where he always sees the dead and can understand their whispers.
So, yeah. I want to play Shinji's route next!
