Prep for Extra Life: 2017 (Super Early, I know)
All this talk of streaming in the other thread got me to thinking about this year's Extra Life. I had always meant to give Beam a shot, but didn't get around to it. I figured, why not set things up now, while it's fresh on my mind and I have some free time, rather than waiting until the last minute?
So, I've set up my Beam account and tested it out with a few minutes of Dofus. I like it! So, I'll probably use it. Which brings me to my question: Do the Wombats have a presence on Beam, already? A team or anything?

I just had to check, and we do not have a Wombat team there
Cool. If any of us decide to use Beam, this year, we can start one. But, that's a looooooong ways off.
Ah! So, one of Beam's features is that you accrue points by watching and streaming, and you use those points to Do Stuff. One of those Stuff is creating a team. You need 5000 points to create a team. I currently have 5,236. Since I'm not doing anything with these points, I'll make the team just for the halibut.

And sent you an invite.
Hmmm....I don't see the invitation. I thought had to do with my AdBlocker (which was keeping me from seeing the "follow" button) but, nope. Still don't see it.
I believe if you open your right sidebar (click your icon in the very uppr right corner) there's a menu item that says TEAMS. It might be in there?
That was the problem! I had checked there, before, and nothing came up. Once I turned AdBlocker off, the invite showed up. I just didn't think to check under teams again because...it didn't seem like the sort of thing AdBlocker would affect.
Man, AdBlocker really messes with Beam, apparently!
Gah!
Awesome! Thank you! I hadn't actually done any research into teams, so I didn't know about the cost.
I figured since Beam is becoming the default streaming platform for Windows and XB that making a team now would be worth the points.
Very true! Plus, I like the fact that it actually has teams. It'll make it very easy to do the team thing for Extra Life. We're all showing in the same spot, already. No need to do a bunch of editing on a page to link to everyone.
Yeah. Though I'm not sure how teams work here. I think it's an aggregate of all members when live, and you can switch between them on a single page, which is really cool. That way during EL, if people are streaming at the same time, someone viewing could jump between them without leaving the page.
We could always test it out, one night. I have two monitors, so I could watch the page on one and stream something on the other to see what happens. If it does what you think it does, that is awesome!
I alerted folks in the Discord Wombat channel, though I don't think there's anyone there who'd be interested. We could also just collect folks on Twitter in case they don't see it otherwise and are interested.
I'll put out the alert on Twitter. I think that's our best option to catching folks. And, we can ping everyone, again, closer to actual EL time. It's way off of everyone's radar, right now. I just happened to think about it because of the Player.me thing.
/highfive
I'm happy for the tighter integration with Windows/Xbox because I have had issues with OBS from time to time. But I hope there's a way to do an overlay IF Microsoft integrates it into Win10's Xbox game center. Right now you can only post a webcam and no "flash" on the screen, so that kind of sucks.
Even if they allow for something like Streamjar or whatever Playerme is concocting, that would be a massive help.
So yeah! Looks like you can just jump between team members who are streaming at the same time.
I was just bopping around and I think I saw Streamjar mentioned on another person's screen, down in the corner. So, maybe?
