Sucker Punch updates Infamous to add 'better framerate' option
At some point in the last week or so, Sucker Punch rolled out an update to Infamous Second Son and Infamous: First Light. If you have a PS4 Pro you can now play in "4K mode" (which is more like 1800P) which looks AMAZING but runs ~30 FPS or you can now use the extra power to improve framerate, at which point the game runs at 60 FPS with a few drops to high-50s.
I've always been kind of meh about this 60 FPS goal, but I''d been stuck on one mission where you're in a sniper nest, can't move and have to take out swarms of baddies. The other night I tried it like half a dozen times and died and rage quit. After flipping over to the 60 FPS mode, I beat it the first try.
Now maybe it was because I was coming at it fresh, or maybe it's the 60 FPS... I can't say for sure. But it at least has me thinking about frame rate in a more positive light.
There's been a lot of call in the fan community for more developers to use the PS4 Pro to increase framerate rather than increase graphics. I may be on board with that sentiment.

So, is Sony only ever going to be talking about everything in terms of the PS4Pro? Is original PS4 now the shunned stepchild?
No I don't think Sony is doing that at all. I think you're viewing Sony through my filter. :) If you go to the Sony blog there's not that much about PS4 Pro and lots of game announcements that never mention it.
In fact I learned about this new mode not from Sony but from Digital Foundry.
Ah!
I'm not as crazy about 60fps as some people seem to be but I do prefer it over flashier graphics if given the option. The biggest case I have to this is playing Dark Souls II on the PS4 in 60fps. Felt much better than DS1 on my 360 at 30.
