What's Up With PSN?
I had mentioned this before in other circles, when I was trying to download ESO on the PS4. It took an entire weekend to do, and I was at my wits end doing all kinds of crazy stuff like, you know, looking up ports to forward and dealing with MTU values and all that.
Now I'm trying to download Battlefield 1, and this is what I'm getting:
It says 3 hours, but when I first logged into the console, it said something like 30 hours.
Thing is, it's not my Internet connection:
So, harkening back to the post by @pasmith re: the AAA game sales, this is seriously starting to make me consider physical copies : /

Hmm.. I haven't been having any issues here.
You must work in IT XD
8 AM, and the download is back to 99+ hours.
But here's the thing: obviously I'm not going to sit here and watch the thing download, so I put the system in rest mode. It's SUPPOSED to keep going, but apparently it doesn't, or doesn't do it consistently.
My original download amount was after I looked in on it after queuing it remotely from the website. So I managed to get 4GB downloaded without issue. When I logged in, I saw the 99+ hours.
This morning, I was only at 6GB, and 99+ hours. So I paused and unpaused. Since I've been sitting here via PSRemote watching the download, I've gained another 4GB, and it says I've got 68 minutes left.
This makes me sad because remotely queuing downloads from afar while the system is in sleep mode is a massive selling feature for me. Having to sit in front of the console to babysit the download isn't what I'm paying the 21st century for! On the other hand, if this maintains it's relative sprinting speed, then looks like the low power download is the culprit.
Probably dumb questions but under the Power Save -> Rest Mode settings, the "Stay Connected to the Internet" setting didn't somehow get unchecked, did it?
Also check the Automatic Downloads section under System settings (though I don't think that SHOULD matter).
And under PlayStation Network/Account Management make sure you've activated the PS4 as your Primary PS4.
I know Scott has a lot of complaints about the speed of PSN but I think in his case it has to do with the mirror he's connected to. With you it sounds like speed is fine with the system awake (and in the interim you could just leave it on...it'll turn itself off after a few hours...4 I think) so it sounds more like a setting or a bug with your PS4.
Yeah the stay connected setting is checked. I'll have to check on there primary option, but I'd hope it woulds be checked if it were there only PS4 I activated
If course, I have to actually watch it because once I went away and left the system on, I was back to 37 hours :(
My last suggestion is to rebuild the database but I only suggest that because I dunno what else to suggest, other than contacting support.
Howe do you do that

Option 5. Short version. Turn off the PS4 (totally off, not rest mode) then turn it back on and hold the button in for 7-10 seconds. You'll hear a beep when you first hit the button and a second in like 7 seconds. That boots you into Safe Mode. Connect a controller via cable to pick from the text menu, option 5 is rebuild database. It can take a while.
This feels to me like defragging the drive so its kind of a long shot that it would help with your download issues but it's like step 1 of any interaction with tech support.
OK, so I DID get the base game downloaded, and it was stuck on downloading all of the extra stuff. Same speeds, etc.
I am initiating a rebuild of the database right now. Last night before company came I went to their KB and found ALL of the ports to open in the router, which I added (just in case). Barring this, I might put it on the DMZ and reboot and see if that helps. I'm just really confused about what the heck is going on here.
I always have poor speeds when the PS4 is on, but when it's in rest mode I get normal speeds. (10 Mbps vs 35)
Yeah that seems to be common behavior. Like when it is on it is reserving bandwidth or something.
Im kinda having the same problem and don't know what to do about it and just wait it out. currently downloading metal gear.. Just worried i might not be able to play ffxv as soon as its released
It'd be nice if there were more options to pre-load stuff. Especially for high profile items. I wonder if their network is the bottleneck...
